How is it already almost Martin Luther King Day??!! I don’t know if time moving quickly is a good thing or a bad thing these days. I hate feeling like I’m wishing away the days, but I also can’t wait until the pandemic is behind us. 🤞 ⁣

Here’s a simple, yet extremely meaningful activity for honoring MLK Day: After reading/discussing Dr. King’s “I Have A Dream” speech, have students select 10-15 words from the speech to use in an original found poem. Like warming- up before exercise, it’s important to warm-up before reading. Preparing the mind for what’s to come will result in increased comprehension. A well-crafted pre-reading activity will encourage students to make predictions, connect with the topic, activate prior knowledge, and objectively preview text contents. ⠀⁣

Although I’ve taken a lot from this past year, I’ve come to realize that I already have everything I need. It’s easy to get caught up in all the shiny objects and greener grass, but that stuff doesn’t matter in the long run. ⁣

This would be great to do with students after break. And if you're really into it, have them turn their memoirs into a slide, put them all together, and add music. You’ll end up with an emotional presentation. 😭❤⠀⁣
